Hungary’s first standard 5G station was launched at downtown Zalaegerszeg. 5 G technology can significantly improve traffic safety, since vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications enable the spreading of traffic safety information among drivers not only trough ETSI-G5 short term radio communication (which is similar to WIFI), but also trough mobile technology. Since 2015, a 136 km long ETSI-G5 technology based test section has been operated on Hungary’s M1 motorway, with the aim of increasing road work safety. At the end of 2018, the system was further upgraded with equipment placed on the M0 ring road. Based on our experiences, we decided to deploy additional equipment in order to extend the coverage on the M1 and M7 motorways and on the M70 high-speed road. Hungarian Public Road Nonprofit Pte Ltd Co and Szent István University entered a cooperation agreement on a solemn basis. The agreement was signed by József Attila Szilvai (CEO),  Dr. László Palkovics (Rector) and Dr. László Kátai (Dean) on the 11th of January 2019 at the Graduation Ceremony. The signatories of the document intend to increase the quality of engineering training by combining the academic knowledge of Szent István University and the professional experience of our company. With the kick-off meeting held in Madrid on 13.12.2018, the HiDALGO project (called upon by INFRAEDI 2018-2020 which is financed by the Horizon 2020 programme) has been officially launched. The HiDALGO (HPC and Big Data Technologies for Global Systems) project mainly belongs to development projects related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and its main target is the analyses of “Big Data” using supercomputers. The cooperation coordinated by the University of Stuttgart involves German, Austrian, Greek, British and Hungarian research institutions, with a budget of 7 000 000 EUR.
