Background:

At this moment 30 per cent of motorway network is toll-free. It means that drivers using pay roads (70% of motorway network) contribute to the running expenses of the whole motorway network). There is considerable transit traffic in Hungary, which increases the risk of accidents and also causes significant damages to the road network. A truck causes 30 thousand times graver damages than a automobile.

The interest of drivers corresponds with the aims of the Ministry that is to introduce use-proportionate fees in order to compensate the inequality in the payment of running expenses, i.e. lorries should contribute more to the expanses. This conception is backed by the fact that lorry traffic is expanding by more than 10% per year.
